British journalist Charlotte Peet, 32, has been reported missing in Brazil after sending a concerning WhatsApp message to a friend on February 8, stating she needed a place to stay in Rio de Janeiro. She has not responded to attempts to contact her since. The Brazilian Foreign Press Association has expressed concern and is supporting the search, which is being conducted by the 5th Missing Persons Division of the State Department of Homicides and Personal Protection.
