The 22-year-old British national has been held in Russian captivity since November
A 22-year-old British national, James Scott Rhys Anderson, has been sentenced to 19 years in a Russian jail for fighting with Ukrainian forces. Captured in November 2024, Anderson was charged with terrorist offenses in a closed-door trial, where a Ukrainian soldier from his unit testified. He will serve five years in prison before being transferred to a penal colony. His sentencing comes close to the three-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Anderson's father expressed support for his decision to fight in Ukraine.
