Brown warns its international students and professors after university doctor is deported to Lebanon

In a campus-wide email, Russell Carey, Brown’s executive vice president for planning and policy, encouraged those intending to travel outside the U.S. to wait until more information was available from the State Department



Brown University cautioned international students and faculty about foreign travel after assistant professor Rasha Alawieh, on an H-1B visa, was deported to Lebanon despite a court order to stay. The deportation followed her detention upon returning from Lebanon, where the government claimed she supported Hezbollah and possessed related media.
