Cyprus MPs propose exempting residents near the Dhekelia power station from pollution fees on electricity bills, arguing it's unfair to charge them for exposure to pollutants. Committee chair Kyriacos Hadjiyianni supports this, while Akel’s Costas Costa states the decision lies with the government, not the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC). The EAC defends the power station's necessity for grid stability, but Hadjiyianni deems the situation unacceptable. Pollution levels in the area were previously reported as high, including significant sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and micro-particle readings.
