Fears of a major environmental disaster eased after a container ship, the Portuguese-flagged Solong, collided with a U.S. fuel tanker, the Stena Immaculate, off the northeast coast of England. While fires and explosions occurred, only about 10% of the Stena Immaculate's jet fuel cargo leaked. The Russian captain of the Solong has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, and one crew member is missing and presumed dead.
