Calls for Cambridge councilor’s resignation mount after brothel charge

Cambridge City Councilor Paul Toner is facing mounting calls for his resignation after being charged with paying for sex at a Greater Boston brothel. He is accused of exchanging numerous texts with brothel operators and arranging to buy sex multiple times in 2023. While some fellow councilors have urged him to resign, others have stopped short of demanding it. Several organizations and individuals, including Title IX Aurelia Advocates, state Rep. Mike Connolly, and former executive director of the Cambridge Women’s Commission Nancy Ryan, have also called for Toner's resignation. Authorities are pursuing charges against 28 men in total involved in the brothel ring.
