Calls for private UN Security Council meeting over spiralling violence in war

The US and Russia have jointly called for the United Nations Security Council to meet over the spiralling violence in Syria, after over 1,000 people were massacred this week.

Following a massacre of over 1,000 people, including children and women, in war-torn Syria, the US and Russia jointly called for a private UN Security Council meeting to discuss the escalating violence. The violence erupted after gunmen loyal to Assad attacked Syria's new security forces, with ongoing killings and ethnic cleansing reported. Syria's leader vowed accountability for the perpetrators, and an independent committee was formed to investigate the violations.
