Carer told man not to jump into pool prior to his death, inquest hears

Joanna Henderson said she had told Michael Parker not to jump into the pool on holiday in Spain.

An inquest into the death of Michael Parker, who drowned in a swimming pool during a holiday in Spain, heard that a senior carer had warned him not to jump into the pool two days before the incident. Senior support worker Joanna Henderson told the court she had instructed Mr. Parker, 43, not to jump into the pool on June 10, and he had complied. However, on June 11, Mr. Parker jumped into the pool again, and carer Harry Beckwith, who was also in the pool, landed on him, causing a spinal injury that led to his death. The inquest also revealed that The Grange, the care home where Mr. Parker was a resident, had rules against jumping into pools, but this warning was not recorded in his care notes. The inquest is ongoing and is set to conclude on March 12.
