Charges for excessive water use not being considered ‘at this time’, department says

The Irish Department of Housing stated that Minister James Browne is not currently considering implementing charges for excessive water use, despite previous plans and concerns from opposition TDs who fear a return to widespread water charges. This comes as a month-long ban on hosepipe usage takes effect in Dublin. Previous attempts to introduce water charges in Ireland led to significant public protests and were ultimately suspended.
