Minister for Justice to tell colleagues that Garda has invested in two water cannons, 15 public order vans and new shields for gardaí
Since the November 2023 Dublin riots, public order policing has been strengthened with increased Garda training (over 1,500 gardaí trained, 500 in Dublin), the acquisition of two water cannons and 15 new public order vehicles, and the issuing of 600 body-worn cameras, more body armour, and modern round shields. The potential use of tasers and expansion of the dog unit are also being considered.
