China issues rule to strike back in international intellectual property disputes

China has introduced a new regulation effective May 1st to counter discriminatory measures against Chinese citizens or organizations in international intellectual property disputes. This rule, aimed at addressing "containment and suppression," allows Beijing to retaliate against foreign governments that use IP disputes to restrict or interfere with China. The regulation also mandates Chinese entities involved in foreign IP lawsuits to comply with Chinese laws regarding state secrets, data security, and technology export management.
