Confidence among B.C. small businesses lowest in Canada, survey finds

A new survey from the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses found small business confidence falling in British Columbia more than anywhere else in Canada.

A survey by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) reveals that small businesses in British Columbia (B.C.) have the lowest confidence in Canada. The CFIB's February Business Barometer indicates a 3.7-point decline in long-term confidence in B.C., marking the third consecutive month of national decline. Short-term confidence in B.C. stands at 41.8 index points, significantly below historical averages. Factors contributing to this decline include concerns over U.S.-Canada tariffs, taxes, regulations, insurance costs, wage costs, and low demand. Emily Boston from CFIB highlights that uncertainty and inflation are dampening the long-term outlook for small businesses. Additionally, recent comments from Trump regarding tariffs add to the ongoing concerns.
