Council rents to rise to average of £89 a week in West Lothian

West Lothian Council has approved a 3.5% increase in council rents, raising the average weekly rent to £89, effective from April 2024. The increase will remain in place until 2027/28, with rents projected to reach £95.49 by 2027/28. The council also agreed to a £100 million capital spending program for new builds and renovations. The current average rent of £86.13 is slightly above the Scottish average but below that of registered social landlords. The SNP opposition criticized the consultation process, while an amendment proposed redirecting £160,000 to address void properties.
