The Federal High Court in Abuja awarded N5 million in damages to Dr. Tersagh Ichor, a lecturer at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University (JOSTUM) in Makurdi, Benue State, who was accused of masterminding the kidnapping of ASUU chairman’s wife, Mrs. Susan Anyagh. The court ruled that Ichor and another individual, Prof. Iorkyaa, were unlawfully detained without being charged to court, breaching their fundamental right to personal liberty under the Nigerian Constitution and the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights. The respondents included the Benue State Police and other officials. The judgment also emphasized that their detention beyond 24 hours without proper charges was a violation of their rights.
