Canada is engaged in a trade war with the U.S. triggered by tariffs imposed by Donald Trump, which Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calls unjustified and bogus. Canada is retaliating with tariffs on $30 billion of American goods, escalating to $155 billion within 21 days, and plans to challenge the U.S. through the WTO and CUSMA. Trump threatens to match any reciprocal tariffs with additional tariffs. Trudeau, who will be replaced as Liberal leader and Prime Minister on Sunday, insists Canadian tariffs will remain until U.S. tariffs are withdrawn.
