Derelict Victorian houses ‘crumbling’ six years after purchase by Dublin City Council

Council has had to halt redevelopment due to deteriorating condition of homes in Phibsborough

Dublin City Council purchased two derelict Victorian houses in Phibsborough for €700,000 in 2019, planning to redevelop them. However, the project was halted due to the facades crumbling, requiring a structural report that revealed foundation issues. The council now aims to begin work in Q3 2025. The houses were previously on the Derelict Sites Register, removed in 2012, and re-added in 2018 after deterioration. The previous owner, Patrick Joseph Gallagher, had objected to the compulsory purchase but failed to address the issues, leading the council to acquire the properties.
