Disability funding approved 17 months after launch amid claim boy was used as election 'prop'

The Department of Children has ‘secured sanction’ to fund projects to help children with additional needs.

Over €8 million in funding for Children's Disability Service projects in Co. Donegal has been approved 17 months after the grant's initial launch in October 2023. Sinn Fein TD Pearse Doherty stated that no funding had been allocated and criticized the government for using a child as an "election prop." Minister Norma Foley's office says she "secured sanction" for the funding, covering project costs from 2025-2027, and the HSE will engage with successful applicants.
