Doar 36 de companii sunt responsabile pentru jumătate din emisiile de dioxid de carbon ale întregii planete
36 companies are responsible for half of the world's carbon dioxide emissions in 2023, including major firms like Saudi Aramco, ExxonMobil, and Shell. These companies emitted over 20 billion tons of CO2, with fossil fuels and cement production being significant contributors. The report highlights the urgent need to address corporate responsibility for climate impact, as highlighted by The Guardian. The companies' emissions surpass those of many countries, with Saudi Aramco ranking as the fourth-largest emitter globally. To limit global warming to 1.5°C, emissions must drop by 45% by 2030. The International Energy Agency states that new fossil fuel projects post-2021 conflict with net-zero targets. Most companies in the Carbon Majors database increased emissions in 2023, prompting criticism from climate leaders for continuing production despite climate commitments. The data is being used in legal actions against these companies. Emissions are sourced from coal (41%), oil (32%), gas (23%), and cement (4%).
