DOJ officials defends alleged quid pro quo with NYC mayor Eric Adams as judge hauls prosecutors to court to discuss case

A federal judge did not rule on the move to dismiss the charges

A DOJ official denied engaging in a quid pro quo with New York City Mayor Eric Adams but argued that even if such an arrangement existed, it wouldn't be problematic. Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove III pushed to dismiss the charges against Adams to support former President Trump's immigration agenda. Five federal prosecutors resigned rather than sign the dismissal documents. During a court hearing, Bove denied any deal but emphasized the importance of dismissing the charges to allow Adams to assist with Trump's immigration policies. Mayor Adams denied any promises or threats and expressed confidence the charges wouldn't be pursued. The judge has not yet ruled on the dismissal motion. Adams was indicted on charges of accepting Turkish government benefits in exchange for political favors and has pleaded not guilty.
