Drogheda and Waterford showing way to end Dublin dominance of League of Ireland

League leaders aim to continue their fine start to the season by beating Shamrock Rovers on Friday

Drogheda United and Waterford FC lead the League of Ireland, challenging Dublin clubs' dominance with a multi-club model. Drogheda is owned by the Trivela Group, also owning Walsall and Silkeborg IF, while Waterford is owned by the Pilley family, who also own Fleetwood Town. Both clubs aim for European qualification to sustain their financial models, drawing talent through international club affiliations. Other clubs like Cobh Ramblers are seeing new ownership with similar multi-club structures.
