Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte appeared via video link at the ICC for his initial hearing on murder allegations, with his lawyer claiming Duterte was "abducted," is too ill to testify, and suffers from debilitating medical issues. The judge stated Duterte was deemed mentally fit and that concerns about his transfer and health could be raised later. A lawyer representing victims' families welcomed the hearing. The confirmation of charges hearing is set for September 23.
