DWP outlines help for people losing PIP entitlement or benefits under new proposals

Chancellor Rachel Reeves is expected to announce more details on the proposed reforms during the Spring Statement on March 26.

The DWP plans to reform PIP eligibility starting November 2026, affecting new claims and award reviews, subject to parliamentary approval. Existing PIP claimants will only be affected at their next award review. The DWP outlines support for those losing PIP entitlement, including individual assessments and ensuring health and care needs are met. Universal Credit health element rates will be frozen for current recipients until 2029/2030, with an increased standard allowance. Those with the most severe conditions and no prospect of work will have incomes protected and won't be reassessed. New Universal Credit health element claims will be reduced.
