ECB cuts rates, expects inflation to stabilise at 2 per cent by 2027
The European Central Bank (ECB) cut its three key interest rates by 25 basis points, projecting inflation to average 2.3% in 2025, 1.9% in 2026, and 2.0% in 2027. While wage growth is moderating, domestic inflation remains high. The ECB expects the rate cut to make borrowing cheaper, but acknowledges subdued lending due to the lingering effects of previous rate hikes. GDP growth forecasts have been revised downward, and future rate decisions will depend on incoming data and inflation dynamics.
