J.P. Morgan's chief economist estimates a 40% chance of a US recession this year, increased from 30% at the start of the year, partly due to concerns about President Trump's tariffs. He warns that further disruptive policies could increase the recession risk to 50% or higher and that the administration's actions could undermine investor trust and the US's "exorbitant privilege" as a reliable investment destination.
