Edmonton's Emily Murphy Park statue stolen leaving nothing but her shoes
Emily Murphy's statue in Edmonton's Emily Murphy Park was stolen, leaving only her shoes. The theft occurred on Tuesday, prompting an investigation by the Edmonton Police Service. The statue, installed in 1992, is valued at $250,000. Renee Williams of the Edmonton Arts Council noted that the statue, part of the "Famous Five," has faced vandalism due to Murphy's controversial racist views, including a 2020 incident where it was painted red with the word "racist."
