Education minister warns against proliferation of universities

Education Minister Olatunji Alausa urged lawmakers to halt the excessive establishment of new universities, prioritizing the improvement of existing institutions instead. He cited inadequate student enrollment relative to the growing number of universities and highlighted the disproportionately low enrollment rates in private universities. He lamented the number of university bills in the National Assembly. He also confirmed that the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) would continue indefinitely and announced a strategy to enroll 10 million out-of-school children and President Tinubu's approval of N120 billion for student entrepreneurship. He mentioned policy reviews and focus on STEM education.
