Enoch Burke case: move to appoint receiver with power to collect fines from teacher’s salary

If approved, it will give the State the power to collect from his salary some €79,100 in fines

The State is seeking High Court approval to appoint a receiver to collect €79,100 in unpaid fines from teacher Enoch Burke's salary. These fines stem from his continued violation of court orders to stay away from Wilson's Hospital School, despite being on administrative leave pending an appeal of his termination. The court granted leave to the Attorney General and Ministers for Education and Finance to apply for a garnishee order or receiver appointment, and ordered the Department of Education to disclose Burke's salary and benefits. The daily fine for contempt of court was also increased to €1,400.
