The Enugu State House of Assembly has introduced a bill to regulate tenancy fees and charges, targeting excessive agency and legal fees and the practice of caution fees. The proposed law caps these fees at 10% of the rent, abolishes caution fees, and empowers a government agency to issue further housing regulations. Violations will result in a fine of N500,000 or up to six months in prison. The bill, sponsored by Hon. Mbah, aims to address widespread tenant exploitation and has received broad support.
