EU sends Apple first DMA interoperability instructions for apps and connected devices
The EU has sent Apple preliminary instructions under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) to allow wider interoperability of iOS with third-party apps and connected devices. This includes access to features like peer-to-peer Wi-Fi, NFC, and device pairing, aiming for better compatibility between iPhones and non-Apple devices. Apple argues the DMA requirements are anti-innovation, could compromise user privacy and security by forcing them to share unencrypted data with third parties, and limit their ability to protect users from data misuse.
