The EU has sent Apple preliminary instructions under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) to allow wider interoperability of iOS with third-party apps and connected devices. This includes access to features like peer-to-peer Wi-Fi, NFC, and device pairing, aiming for better compatibility between iPhones and non-Apple devices. Apple argues the DMA requirements are anti-innovation, could compromise user privacy and security by forcing them to share unencrypted data with third parties, and limit their ability to protect users from data misuse.
