The EU has suspended some sanctions against Syria, including those related to energy, banking, transport, and reconstruction, citing a desire to ease the burden on the Syrian people. While asset freezes were lifted for five banks and restrictions on the central bank were eased, other sanctions remain in place, including those on arms trading and surveillance software.
