Boualem Sansal, a Franco-Algerian writer, faces a 10-year prison sentence and a million dinar fine in Algeria, as requested by the prosecution. He was arrested on November 16th under Article 87 bis of the Algerian Penal Code. The verdict is scheduled for March 27th. He is charged with several offenses, including undermining national unity and threatening national security, based on press releases and electronic publications found on his devices. Sansal dismissed his lawyers and defended himself.
