Mexican authorities arrested Gilberto Villarreal Arelis, the alleged leader of the Los Piojos drug trafficking organization, in the border state of Nuevo Leon. Villarreal Arelis, who had evaded capture by hiding in a ritzy neighborhood, is wanted in Texas on charges of drug trafficking and money laundering. Los Piojos, active since the early 2000s, allegedly smuggled drugs from Guatemala to Texas and laundered money through real estate companies. Authorities have convicted 14 individuals and companies in related cases and aim to extradite Villarreal Arelis.
