Fire service issues update after Greater Manchester moorland blaze

Six fire engines were called to tackle the blaze - which saw people nearby urged to keep their doors and windows closed



The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service updated on a moorland fire near Diggle, north of Oldham, which occurred on March 5, 2025, at around 4:15 PM. Six fire engines, including wildfire units, were dispatched. The fire was visible for miles, prompting residents to keep doors and windows closed. Firefighters extinguished the blaze after two hours but left due to darkness. They plan to revisit the area the next day for a daylight review.
