Fired NLRB commissioner asks federal judge for reinstatement

Federal Judge Beryl Howell is considering whether President Donald Trump's firing of National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Member Gwynne Wilcox was illegal. Wilcox argues that Trump lacked the legal authority to remove her, as congressional statute specifies that NLRB members can only be removed for neglect of duty or malfeasance. This marks the first instance of a president attempting to remove an NLRB member. Judge Howell noted the case could reach the Supreme Court, as it involves the balance of executive and judicial powers. For now, Wilcox remains removed, and the NLRB lacks a quorum to resolve labor disputes.
