Former Treloar pupils claim school ‘failed’ them amid compensation battle

Four former pupils of Lord Mayor Treloar School and College in Hampshire—Richard Warwick, Gary Webster, Steve Nicholls, and Adrian Goodyear—have accused the school of failing them by providing unlawful medical treatments involving contaminated blood products during the 1970s and 1980s. These treatments exposed them to diseases such as HIV and hepatitis A, B, and C, without their or their parents’ knowledge. The school, which was a boarding institution for children with haemophilia, operated an on-site NHS center where pupils received treatments that were later found to be contaminated. The Infected Blood Inquiry report highlighted that children at Treloar’s were often treated as research subjects, with healthcare professionals aware of the risks of virus transmission. The former pupils are part of a group seeking compensation, with some receiving up to £2.7 million each, but they emphasize the battle is about accountability rather than financial recompense. The Treloar Trust has apologized, expressing deep regret, and suggested the Government’s compensation scheme as the best route for recompense.
