Apple Maps has added over 250 Indigenous place names in Australia, drawing data from sources like the Australian Institute for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. The app will also show land borders for Indigenous protected areas and reserves. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Indigenous groups over four years, builds on similar updates in Canada and the United States. Indigenous communities will be able to contribute cultural information via "place cards." Apple will also roll out place cards for locations in Aotearoa New Zealand, developed in collaboration with several iwi (Māori tribes).
