Galway city and county hosts one of Europe’s biggest kayak festivals
Galway city and county hosts Galway Fest, one of Europe’s largest kayak festivals, now in its 13th year. The three-day event features competitions on the River Corrib, Boluisce River, and Clare River. Spectators can watch kayakers race on the Corrib on Sunday, with vantage points at O’Brien’s and Wolfe Tone bridges. The festival, started by Barry Loughnane and Andrew Regan, combines high-level competition with a social atmosphere, attracting top paddlers and selling out quickly. Opportunities for newcomers to learn about kayaking are also available.
