Gardeners urged to put grated cheese on bird feeders in April

Feeding the birds is important all year round - but exactly what to leave out for them changes according to the seasons and their varying needs

The RSPCA advises gardeners to offer birds a variety of kitchen scraps this spring, including mild, grated cheddar cheese, cooked pasta, rice, boiled potatoes, fruit, and nuts in appropriate feeders. Avoid salty cheeses like brie and blue cheese. Keep water fresh and feeders clean, rotating feeding areas to prevent disease.
