GB Energy investing £200m in solar panels on schools and hospitals to cut bills

Hundreds of schools and NHS sites will get funding for renewables in the first major investment by the publicly owned clean energy company.

Great British Energy is investing £200 million in solar panels for hundreds of schools and NHS sites across the UK to cut energy bills and reinvest savings into frontline services. The project, which also includes funding for community clean power projects, aims to save schools an average of £25,000 annually and NHS sites £45,000, with a potential lifetime savings of up to £400 million over 30 years. The first installations are expected by summer 2025, targeting areas most in need.
