A Georgetown University scholar has been detained by immigration officials, prompting his lawyer to seek urgent relief in federal court

Georgetown University postdoctoral scholar Badar Khan Suri, an Indian national researching peacebuilding, has been detained by immigration officials over accusations of spreading Hamas propaganda and antisemitism on social media. His lawyer is seeking urgent relief in federal court. Georgetown University states Suri was duly granted a visa and they are unaware of him engaging in any illegal activity. He is currently being held in Louisiana. This detention follows similar deportation efforts against other foreign-born visa holders, including a Columbia University student activist, involved in pro-Palestinian demonstrations.
