Grupo Firme pulls out of Mazatlán Carnival after receiving death threats

And yet the show will go on: The Aguilar family, a beloved Mexican musical dynasty, has agreed to step in as headliners. The post Grupo Firme pulls out of Mazatlán Carnival after receiving death threats appeared first on Mexico News Daily

Grupo Firme canceled their performance at the Mazatlán Carnival after receiving death threats, following the discovery of a narco banner warning against their participation. This marks the second major regional Mexican music act to withdraw from the event due to narco threats, with Peso Pluma also canceling performances in 2023. The Mazatlán Carnival, one of the world’s largest, is a key event for reviving tourism in Sinaloa. Grupo Firme, known for avoiding drug-trafficking themes in their music, was replaced by Pepe Aguilar and his family. The cancellations highlight the growing influence of drug cartels on the music industry, particularly in regions like Baja California, Sinaloa, and Jalisco. Other performers, including Plácido Domingo and Alejandro Sanz, remain on the lineup.
