Gun owners and industry groups, including the National Rifle Association (NRA), have filed a federal lawsuit challenging Massachusetts’s new gun laws, which prohibit 18-20-year-olds from possessing or carrying handguns and semiautomatic firearms. The plaintiffs argue that the law violates the Second Amendment, as it restricts the rights of individuals classified as “the people” under the Constitution. The lawsuit, filed on Friday, includes plaintiffs like Mack Escher, a 19-year-old college student, who claims the law prevents him from purchasing or carrying a firearm for self-defense. The NRA and other groups have criticized the law as one of the most extreme gun control measures in the country.
