Hidden pollution horror of gas cookers which are more polluting than Britain's busiest roads

Damaging air pollutants - found both indoors and outdoors - are a significant contributor to children developing asthma, as well as exacerbating other respiratory conditions in both children and adults

A new investigation found that cooking with a gas hob can cause more indoor pollution than a busy UK road. Testing by Which? using air quality monitors in volunteer homes revealed that air pollution spikes near gas hobs during cooking and lingers. Fumes from gas stoves kill 40,000 Europeans each year. Pollution from gas cookers cuts short the lives of nearly 4,000 people in the UK each year. Gas cookers leak methane even when switched off.
