U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visited a high-security El Salvador prison housing Venezuelans deported from the U.S. under the Alien Enemies Act, accused by the Trump administration of being members of the Tren de Aragua gang. The visit, part of a three-day trip, included a meeting with President Nayib Bukele and inspection of the Terrorism Confinement Center, where prisoners are held in harsh conditions. The deportees lack consular support and have not appeared before a judge in El Salvador. Lawyers hired by the Venezuelan government filed habeas corpus petitions seeking their release.
