Hong Kong team says test detects nasopharyngeal cancer with 97% accuracy

Chinese University of Hong Kong researchers find patients with cancer-associated EBV DNA in blood have 87-fold increased risk of developing illness.



A Hong Kong research team at CUHK has developed a new screening method using sequencing technology to detect cancer-associated EBV DNA in blood with 97% accuracy, allowing for earlier identification of patients at high risk for nasopharyngeal cancer. The study found individuals with this DNA had an 87-fold increased risk of developing the illness.
