House of Reps probe FCTA area councils over pension remittance

The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Councils and Ancillary Matters has decided to investigate the alleged failure of the six FCT area councils to remit pension contributions to the FCT Area Council Staff Pension Board. This decision was made during a budget review session with the Pension Board and other FCTA agencies. Committee Chairman Fred Agbedi directed the councils and the Pension Board to submit detailed reports on pension remittances. Agbedi emphasized the need to address delays in remittance, as pension contributions are legally required to be remitted within seven days of salary payment. The Pension Board's director, Suleman Abdulrahman, reported that remittances by the councils are irregular, with delays of up to three months.
