Hudson’s Bay plans ‘immediate’ liquidation of entire business

In a late Friday announcement, Canada's oldest company said it couldn't secure the necessary financing to keep at least some of its empire alive.

Hudson's Bay plans to liquidate its entire Canadian business, including Hudson's Bay, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Saks Off 5th stores, due to a financial shortfall. The liquidation, affecting 9,364 employees, is planned to begin as early as next week, pending court approval, and conclude by June 15. The company cites insufficient financing and the need to repay obligations as reasons for this decision, despite efforts to find alternative solutions.
