A woman suffered permanent lung damage after a physician associate (PA) misdiagnosed her chest infection as a runny nose. The PA, with limited experience, prescribed nasal spray. The woman developed bronchiectasis, and is now calling for government action. Concerns about PAs and patient safety have been raised, citing a lack of evidence of improved care and previous incidents of misdiagnosis. The government has launched an independent review of PA roles.
