ICC issued arrest warrant for Duterte over 43 murders, document shows
The ICC issued a 15-page arrest warrant on March 7 for former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, charging him with murder as a crime against humanity for killings related to his war on drugs. The warrant alleges Duterte led the Davao Death Squad (DDS) and later oversaw Philippines' law enforcement while president. The ICC claims jurisdiction because the alleged crimes occurred while the Philippines was still an ICC member. The warrant details accusations of Duterte contributing to the killings by designing the project, overseeing the DDS, providing weapons, offering incentives, promising immunity, and shielding perpetrators. The warrant cites at least 19 DDS killings in Davao City and 24 killings under Philippine law enforcement supervision.
