In a time of hate and rancour, two Jews sought to pray – and were killed. Let Manchester be a turning point | Jonathan Freedland

This was a horror but amid rising antisemitism, no one can say it was a surprise. There are lessons to learn, and that must start nowIt was the Jewish New Year last week, when the traditional greeting is shana tova: a good year.
